#MetalMondays – Dream Theater – “A Nightmare to Remember” (2/3/13)

4th February

Check out this track by Dream Theater. It’s more of a ‘rock epic’ because it’s over 16-minutes long, but believe me it’s well worth it. Check out Mike Portnoy’s awesome drum cam video of the track below!

Metal Mondays: Metallica – “Damage Case” (1/28/13)

24th January

Mondays song of the week is Metallica’s cover of Motorhead’s “Damage Case.” The cover, which was performed for Lemmy’s private birthday party in 1996, was recorded live to 2-track tape during Metallica’s “Load” album recording sessions. It was released on the “Hero of the Day” single, and then re-released in 1998 for Metallica’s all cover album – “Garage Inc.”

Check it out!

Review: WALK THE MOON – “Tightrope – EP” (2013)

23rd January

WALK THE MOON is quickly making a name for themselves in the alternative rock music scene. After releasing their self titled last year, they have decided to give their fans what they’ve been waiting for – new music! Released on January 22nd, 2013, WALK THE MOON’s “Tightrope – EP” is already my favorite alternative album of 2013. Granted, it is only January 23rd and we still a long year ahead of us, but this is still a great collection of new music from the young band.

Track by track:

1. Tightrope – 5/5

Probably my favorite song off of the EP. It was included on their full album last year as well. This song is so upbeat and catchy, it captures the vibe of what alternative music is today.

2. Anywayican – 4/5

A good track, a little on the slower pace, but again it … Read More »

Beyonce Lip-Sync: Is It Really a Big Deal?

23rd January

The Marines are backing away from an eye-opening claim that Beyonce “did not actually sing” the national anthem atPresident Barack Obama’s inauguration on Monday.

On Tuesday, Master Sgt. Kristin DuBois of the U.S. Marine Band told numerous news outlets, including CNN and the New York Times, that the “Single Ladies” superstar requested the use of a pre-recorded backing track at the last minute. “We don’t know why the decision was made,” DuBois said.

“It’s not because Beyonce can’t sing. We all know Beyonce can sing. We all know the Marine Band can play,” she said.

But this afternoon a Marine Corps. spokesperson tried to clarify the statement by removing the implication of lip-syncing, saying that because Beyonce was unable to sufficiently rehearse with the Marine Band, it was decided the performance should include a recorded track for the band’sportion.

“Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance,” Capt. Gregory Wolf  statement … Read More »

Jennifer Hudson Grooves, Alicia Keys Sings ‘Obama’s On Fire’ at Inaugural Ball

22nd January

Beyonce drew a loud cheer at the inauguration Monday even before her impressive rendition of the national anthem. But in the role she played four years ago singing for the president and first lady at the inaugural ball was her “Dreamgirls” co-star Jennifer Hudson.

If President Barack Obama’s first inaugural theme seemed to be summed up by Beyonce’s “At Last,” this time it was Hudson’s version of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” The “American Idol” alum sang the soul classic for the couple’s first dance.

The president set up the fine moment by giving props to his better half.

“I’m just lucky to have her,” he said in a brief speech. “I said today over at the lunch over at Congress that some may dispute the quality of our president, but nobody disputes the quality of our first lady. Ladies and gentlemen, my … Read More »

Bieber passes Gaga in Twitter Numbers

22nd January

(CNN) — In a perfect world, our most popular Twitterer might be a brilliant scientist, writer, philosopher or spiritual leader.

In this world, he is an 18-year-old pop star with famous hair.

On Monday night, Justin Bieber passed fellow singer Lady Gaga to become the most-followed person on Twitter. As of Tuesday morning, The Biebs had more than 33,333,000 followers, while Gaga was closing in on 33,329,000. Both numbers continued to creep up, but it appeared Bieber was gradually increasing his lead.

Neither had immediately acknowledged the milestone on Twitter. Gaga’s latest tweet was a message to fans about her concert Monday night in Hollywood, California, while Bieber’s was a plug for a recent Teen Vogue photo shoot.

Based on their respective rates of growth, Bieber and his hordes of Beliebers were projected to overtake Gaga on Sunday afternoon, but Gaga’s Little Monsters put up … Read More »
